Dolci Gelati has announced the official kick-off for it’s ‘Dog Days of Summer Creative Gelato Flavor Contest’ – celebrating the final days of summer 2014 with the ultimate sweet sendoff. The contest begins on Monday, August 18th - and will run for two weeks through Sunday, August 31st. Each week a new set of local notable food-focused media – writers, bloggers, and broadcast professionals – will submit a custom gelato flavor to Dolci Gelati Cafe’s master flavor creator and artist, Pastry Chef, and owner Gianluigi Dellaccio to bring to life and serve up in the shop to the community.
The first group of food-loving media professionals includes Nevin Martell, a notable local food writer, Laura Hayes, editor of Thrillist DC, Rina Rapuano, editor of Zagat DC, and Patricia Barba, editor of GirlMeetsFood. Vessels featuring the names and outlets of each local media participant will be displayed in the shop during their designated week – 1st week August 18th-24th, 2nd week August 25th-31st – and each time a customer orders their signature gelato flavor, a token will be placed in their labeled vessel. At the end of the two weeks, the participant with the most tokens will win bragging rights, a private gelato party, and a portion of proceeds from all sales during the two weeks will be donated to the winners local charity of choice.
This week flavors are the following:
Gin Rickey gelato made with local Green Hat Gin and fresh lime juice with crushed spicy nuts
Maple gelato with bacon bits and waffle.
“Vanilla Poached Peach with Ginger Nuggets” - Nevin Martell - Local Food Writer
Vanilla poached peach with either ginger nuggets.
“Girl Meets Gelato” - Tricia Barba from Girl Meets Food
Blueberry Cheesecake with goat cheese and graham cracker crumble.
